Homer is the epitome of the human condition, a sim program character we refer to as a ‘cartoon animations’ construct, a figment of the imagination.

The world according to Matt Groening…..a game master.

As Homer and the gang enter into another season on the television network, I am still dumbfounded as to why the world community continues to watch the dysfunctional misadventures of an animated American family.

Well, in essence, because it parodies American culture and the human condition that has yet to be resolved, and there is an infinite number of potential storylines yet to be realized. As long as the human journey remains online, the more interesting it becomes.

Each week, through the genius of the game master Matt Groening we are reminded that, at least in the last 25 solar years, the American culture and family is ‘ SIMpson like’ and continues to be entertaining.

Homer, and Fred Flintstone for that matter, are defined as the ‘everyday man’ the ‘working joe’, that underdog we pull for to come through with some form of heroism amidst insane odds.

They mirror our adventure, with a touch of lunacy, a parallel of what the human character has become.

I would pay to see Homer, out of character, do a TED presentation or being interviewed by James Lipton on ‘Inside the Actor’s Studio.’ Imagine Homer, animated and in live-action, just telling it like it is from his viewpoint. Doh!

At one point in the series, Homer did enter into a live-action universe. Homer finds himself inside an alternate universe, a ‘Tron’ style 3D sim. As he walks about the light grid, a cone zaps him in the ass. Homer then pulls it out and throws the cone into the light grid floor, and without thinking of any repercussions for his actions, accidentally pierces the fabric of the space-time continuum, causing it to collapse into a wormhole and thereby threatening to pull Homer and the rest of gang into the seemingly abyss of a black hole.

Bart, realizing his father’s quandary, takes command and enters the third dimension to save Homer. After tying a safety rope around himself, Bart tells Homer to leap over the increasingly massive wormhole. Homer, declaring this to be a "piece of cake", leaps and falls into the hole as the universe collapses on itself.

Bart, however, is pulled back safely into the house.

Homer is then heard yelling and falls inside a dumpster, finding himself in ‘live-action Los Angeles. He is initially nervous and scared of his surroundings, but his troubles are soon put aside when he comes across an erotic bakery and goes inside.

.mmmmm doh-nuts…..all in the zaniness of an alternate reality.

And lets us not forget the zaniness of another inter dimension, alternate sim interplay involving Brendan Fraser and the Warner Brothers cartoon characters in ‘Looney Tunes, Back In Action.’

So we have a lighter side of the human journey that makes us unique.

Maybe this is what interests the real game masters. Humor. We are a funny construct.

There is nothing like a 3 Stooges pie fight, a Buster Keaton life threatening stunt, or the camera stare that Ollie gives us when Stanley does something incredibly stupid.

But that’s us. We are unpredictable and that’s what makes us interesting for the game masters.

They have no idea what we will do next when faced with incredible odds.

And that’s where the real magic comes into play. We are the ‘slight of hand’, the illusion that makes for ‘the prestige.’

We want our adventure to continue into the next season, and on into the next generation, and never get cancelled, relegated into the archives to gather dust.

We are against all odds.

We find ways to surprise the game masters, giving them a reason to keep the show on.

Along the “ Sim Highway’ ( Intro to the The SIMpsons theme song) our misadventures are being watched by the game masters with keen interest.

We are entering into yet another ‘Eon Season’ of our existence.

And we find ourselves at the precipice of a possible cancellation and being relegated into the archives.

As the saying goes: “ Make ‘em laugh.’
