Google and NASA are working on combining quantum computing and machine learning to create Quantum AI. Is the Quantum Singularity far behind? http://www.zdnet.com/google-nasa-use-quantum-computing-lab-to-advance-machine-learning-ai-7000015506/

This is a cool development. Do you have any idea why some are calling this "controversial?"

I would say two reasons some are considering it controversial: 1) Some believe that Dwave -- who built the computer that will be used in the NASA-Google project -- is not making a quantum computer. I disagree. I believe it is using an adiabatic quantum computing process. 2) Also, I think the idea of a quantum AI scares some. It's potential is staggering. It could lead to quantum IA -- intelligence amplification -- using the brain's own quantum processes or just wiring its own onto the neural system.
Those are my guesses.
