I thought this was an interesting article on quasiparticles...

Especially the idea that the particles don't "exist" per se, but rather emerge as objects from the underlying system. In that sense, they are like a waveform. I actually suspect that all fundamental particles will eventually be considered "quasi" in that they emerge from the underlying data and rules of the deeper reality. Wheeler and Feynman may have recognized this with their "one electron universe"
