Monsters Episode: strange dark 'shadow' Options

I recently watched an old episode of Monsters entitled, "All in a Day's Work" and something caught my eye. It appears to be some kind of dark shadow, but, unlike most ordinary shadows this one seems to move and change shape -

Does this dark formation have a mundane cause or is it paranormal?

BTW, it first appears behind the guy's head (dude with glasses) at about the 3:30 mark.

Please let me know your thoughts.
