I have a great aversion to TV shows and more recent movies (I love TCM though). Its more than bad acting and stories that don't appeal to me, it's an intuitive thing. Something deep down tells me that there is something wrong with them and they are harmful. People in conversations will bring up some movie they assume everybody has seen and when I say I haven't seen it they look at me like I'm from outer space. Also, I love sports and watch a lot of games on TV but as soon as it goes to commercial break I grab the remote and hit mute....I can't stand to hear that crap. Am I the lone nut or are there others out there that feel this too?

TV series & movies can contain several clues & interesting concepts. Such as, FRINGE with its alternate universe theme & Avatar with its transferring of consciousness into another body theme. Long running LOST or short duration, Flash Forward had some fascinating elements. So did Buck Rogers & Flash Gordon, etc.
At the end of the day, its your choice in watching whatever captures your interest.

I remember one time a bunch of people were waffling on about some hollywood-type comedy they were all into, when I commented that I hadn't seen it. They seemed to be disbelieving. But when I ventured that I saw no need for me to view it, well, this was like a sin to them. An indication of how disinterested I was is that I can't remember said movie's name! But I'm not too bothered about that either. I'd rather watch what I want to watch rather that watch something because others do.

The 1950 original version of The Day The Earth Stood Still, far superior to the remake. Better written, directed, better acting. Even the special effects in the original were way superior to the 'computer crapamation' in the remake. I have yet to see a remake 1/10th as good as the original.
The only good thing about the remake was Jennifer Connelly.

Wasn't she in 'Dark City', too? Someone mentioned that film on another thread around here somewhere. That a good one.
