"This short film is about a piece of footage I (George Clarke) found behind the scenes in Charlie Chaplins film 'The Circus'. Attending the premiere at Manns Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA - the scene shows a large woman dressed in black with a hat hiding most of her face, with what can only be described as a mobile phone device - talking as she walks alone.

I have studied this film for over a year now - showing it to over 100 people and at a film festival, yet no-one can give any explanation as to what she is doing.

My only theory - as well as many others - is simple... a time traveler on a mobile phone. See for yourself and feel free to leave a comment on your own explanation or thoughts about it.

It a crazy coincidence, which is the Universe saying, "There's something to it."

Great find, Guillermo. And a very imaginative explanation for that video clip, to be sure.

I have to say that I don't see a device that the woman is clutching. There is a black shadow on her face, but it appears to be from the angle of the light and her hand. So what is she doing? Talking to herself, chewing gum? Why the hand position? Who knows what kinds of things they might have held to their face in those days. Some of the comments I have seen include a Siemens portable hearing aid (invented in 1924) or an ice pack. The fact that she appears to be talking could be a coincidence.

But the time traveler explanation is certainly more fun. Applause

It sure looks like this person is using a cell phone. Although its difficult to see something like a cell phone there, the body language would be indicative of one from today's perspective.
However, to see this body language evident in a 1928 film certainly can make one wonder about the implications.

If this link through Parabook is true, it means that something far beyond vacuum tube technology was in use.

I would think of some way to use that video in a cell phone commercial.
