Firstly, let me wish everybody on the forum a very merry 2011 xmas and a super 2012 new year.

I wonder if 2012 is the year when we see a transition, a paradigm shift?

There are some interesting things happening next year:-

Curiosity (hopefully) lands on Mars
IBM Sequoia should come online and operate at 20 petaflops
Nintendo Wii U is released
Windows 8 is released
London hosts the Olympic Games (my country, but I'm not really interested to be honest, lol)
Mayan calendar starts its next baktun (21st Dec.)- probably be another ordinary day ;o)
Human Brain Project might get extra funding from European Commission

Can anybody else think of more 2012 highlights?

Ever since 3D TV came out I've thought, "Who thought this would catch on? Having to wear 3D glasses to watch TV? When are they going to give us Holographic TV (I thought for marketing they should call it something like REAL 3D)?"
Wouldn't have expected it to be out so soon.

Now I'm thinking about the impact it may have on architecture.

The Higgs Boson/Higgs Field should be detected at the end of 2012 too, by the LHC at CERN.
