Totally how I think about this, too. One theory: They're coming here for water? You can bend time-space continuum, but you can't find or process water? Really? The only thing that would drive ET to earth would be the same thing that would drive us to explore the far end of the cosmos: curiosity.

Contact could be done in any form. If they are as advanced as some believe, then the EM based transmission will not be the method of communication or energy exchange. That is just silly. But, fear is natural when dealing with the unknown, and the most common fear is they would come here for US. That concept is throughout all of our religions. The idea that we open ourselves up and allow evil to enter is a more reasonable dialog to Hawkings warning of ET's.
