A Dyson Sphere is a hypothetical structure imagined by theoretical physicist Freeman Dyson. The idea is that an intelligent civilization sufficiently advanced to harness all of the resources of its sun (aka Type 2 Civilization), might build a spherical structure around the entire solar system. These spheres might be better indicators of intelligent civilization than the signals that SETI is looking for. Richard Carrigan from the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory has calculated that there might be 16 objects in our galaxy with "strong potential" to be Dyson Spheres.

And with Ion Propulsion at that, we could learn a thing or two from them.
